In academic projects, especially those developed during the final years of university and in the diploma project, the site, the programme and the theme are initially unknown. This situation, albeit infrequent in practice, is a challenge aimed at developing complex and innovative solutions for any of the composing elements: from the discovery of a site’s potential to the sketching of a programme that responds to deeply understood needs, or the tackling of highly pressing social issues. Developing the design brief is seen not only as a means of achieving a balance between site – programme – theme, but also as a possible solution within which the three components strengthen each other.
